1st row exterior loop .1, 1 WS. So alternate until the end of the series.
2nd and all subsequent rows on the knit pattern, placing the loop over the facial facial and purl on the purl. This pattern is called the elastic 1X1.
Gum can be knit in a different way, alternating between two fronts and two purl loops (gum 2X2), 3 purl of the facial (gum ZHH3), 3 and 2 purl facial (gum 3x2), etc. Both sides of the same gum. It is easily stretched and then compressed. Apply gum at the edge of knitting products, collars cuffs, strips, etc.
